Description

The Armstrong Red Maple (Acer rubrum 'Armstrong') is a captivating addition to any home landscape, known for its towering, narrow form and brilliant fall color. This North American native tree is perfect for those seeking a low-maintenance solution to add vertical interest to their garden or yard. Growing to a height of 40 to 60 feet with a slender spread of 10 to 15 feet, it fits well in smaller spaces where horizontal room is limited. Its leaves, which transition from green to a vibrant red-orange in autumn, make it a seasonal highlight. Caring for the Armstrong Red Maple is straightforward. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils, although it can adapt to a variety of soil types, including clay and loam. Regular watering, especially during dry spells, helps maintain its lush appearance. This tree is hardy in zones 3 to 8, making it suitable for a wide range of climates. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Armstrong Red Maple serves as an excellent shade tree, providing relief from the summer heat while enhancing your property's curb appeal. Its fast growth rate means you won't wait long to enjoy its benefits. Whether used as a focal point in a garden or as part of a larger landscape design, this maple is sure to impress with its vibrant display and graceful form. Historically, Acer rubrum has been prized for its adaptability and resilience, adding to its desirability as a garden staple.

FAQs

How do i know the size of the plant?

As is typical in Nursery and Garden Center sales, the plants are listed by the size of the container in which they are grown. While we are in the process of standardizing how our plants are listed here online, many of them still have the notations from the grower's availability list. Here are some common ones that you will see on our website:

  • 17cm = about 6.5" diameter = 1 gallon container
  • 19cm = about 7.5" diameter = 1 gallon container
  • G1 = 1 gallon container
  • G2 = 2 gallon container
  • G3 = 3 gallon container

The size of the actual plant will vary greatly based on the plant, season, and growing stage. In some cases we can provide some more details from the grower as requested.
