    Description

The European Pear (Pyrus communis 'Orient') is a delightful addition to any home garden, offering both aesthetic appeal and delicious fruit. This cultivar, belonging to the Rosaceae family, is renowned for its resilience and high fruit yield, making it a favorite among home gardeners seeking a reliable and rewarding fruit tree. The 'Orient' pear tree is a medium-sized tree, reaching heights of 15-20 feet, perfect for those with ample garden space. Its glossy green leaves provide a lush backdrop, while its large, round fruits with smooth yellow-green skin and a hint of red add a splash of color. The fruit's creamy, juicy flesh is sweet and perfect for enjoying fresh or incorporating into your favorite recipes. Caring for your 'Orient' pear tree is straightforward. It thrives in full sunlight and well-drained loamy soil, and is hardy in USDA zones 5-8. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods, and annual pruning will help maintain its shape and fruit production. This pear variety is not only a treat for the taste buds but also a practical choice for the garden. Its resistance to fire blight means less worry about disease, allowing you to enjoy a bountiful harvest with less maintenance. Whether you're looking to enjoy fresh pears straight from the tree or add a reliable fruiting tree to your landscape, the 'Orient' pear offers both beauty and utility, making it a must-have for any fruit enthusiast.

    FAQs

How do i know the size of the plant?

As is typical in Nursery and Garden Center sales, the plants are listed by the size of the container in which they are grown. While we are in the process of standardizing how our plants are listed here online, many of them still have the notations from the grower's availability list. Here are some common ones that you will see on our website:

    • 17cm = about 6.5" diameter = 1 gallon container
    • 19cm = about 7.5" diameter = 1 gallon container
    • G1 = 1 gallon container
    • G2 = 2 gallon container
    • G3 = 3 gallon container

The size of the actual plant will vary greatly based on the plant, season, and growing stage. In some cases we can provide some more details from the grower as requested.
