    Description

Lucy Rose of Sharon is a stunning ornamental shrub bred for vibrant, wine-colored double flowers that bloom prolifically throughout summer and into fall. This grafted, tree-form specimen reaches 8–10 feet tall with an upright, naturally branching habit, making it ideal for focal points in mixed borders or as a specimen planting. Hardy in USDA zones 5–9, Lucy thrives in full sun and well-draining soil. The double blooms attract pollinators and persist longer than single-flowered varieties, extending your garden's color season. Bred by the University of Minnesota's Landscape Arboretum breeding program, this cultivar combines disease resistance with exceptional ornamental value—a proven performer in botanical gardens and university trial grounds across North America. The 3-gallon patio tree form arrives partially established, reducing establishment time and allowing faster landscape impact. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape. Low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, Lucy Rose of Sharon delivers reliable, season-long interest with minimal fuss.

    FAQs

How do I know the size of the plant?

As is typical in Nursery and Garden Center sales, the plants are listed by the size of the container in which they are grown. While we are in the process of standardizing how our plants are listed here online, many of them still have the notations from the grower's availability list. Here are some common ones that you will see on our website:

    • 17cm = about 6.5" diameter = 1 gallon container
    • 19cm = about 7.5" diameter = 1 gallon container
    • G1 = 1 gallon container
    • G2 = 2 gallon container
    • G3 = 3 gallon container

The size of the actual plant will vary greatly based on the plant, season, and growing stage. In some cases we can provide some more details from the grower as requested.
